THE dear black man PROJECT

photoshoots will start january 2025

why this project matters

In a world that too often tries to defines us, this project is our chance to define ourselves. ‘Dear Black Man’ captures not just the image but the essence of who you are - strong, wise, and undeniably unique.

Each portrait is a powerful narrative, reflecting the dignity, pride, and beauty inherent in Black manhood. Through my lens, I aim to honor our contributions as Black men, challenge stereotypes, and inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of our experiences.

FAQs…Things you may
be thinking about…

  • All photoshoots take place in my studio, which is located in Covington, which I named 'The Vibes Loft'; this ensures a welcoming and comfortable environment for every participant.

  • I encourage you to wear looks that reflect your personality and style. Whether it's a suit, casual wear, or something that speaks to your cultural roots, the choice is yours. I want this to be an authentic representation of you.

  • Once the project is completed, participants will receive a selection of professionally retouched images. Participants will also be provided with a voucher to use for a future photoshoot. I have a few other surprises for participants.

  • I would expect that the photoshoot would not take more than an hour, but I ask that you block out at least 2 1/2 hours of your day to devote to this shoot.

  • Absolutely! Due to the space in my studio, I ask that you limit it to one guest only. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member to provide support and help you feel even more comfortable during the session. All I ask is that they do not become a distraction and interfere with the direction of the session. Please do not bring children.

  • Yes, the images captured in the "Dear Black Man" Project may be featured on my website, social media, print media, news media, and may be used in an anthology that I plan to publish about the project.

  • Once your session is scheduled, we will come up with a vision board to help you get the most out of your experience.

  • My goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident during the shoot. With over 13 years of experience, I know how to bring out the best in every person I photograph, regardless of how they feel in front of the camera.

  • If you're a Black man, then you're exactly the right fit. The "Dear Black Man" Project is about capturing the diverse experiences of Black men, so every story and every face is welcome.

  • Nope. This project is about celebrating who you are right now, in this moment. Your body tells a story of strength, resilience, and life experiences that are worth capturing. You don't need to be in a particular shape to look incredible in your photos - what matters is your confidence.

  • It's completely normal to feel a little uneasy at first, but I worked with many people who have felt the same way. During the shoot, I create a relaxed atmosphere with music, conversation, and clear guidance on posing.

  • That's perfectly okay! Many of my clients are new to professional photography. I'll guide you through every step, from preparation to posing to ensure you feel confident and comfortable throughout the entire process.
